THE IMPACT OF CELL PHONE RADIATION ON THE BRAIN
NIH research found cell phone radiation altered brain activity in areas of the brain closest to the radiating antenna (Volkow 2011). Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute found decreased memory performance in adolescents from cumulative exposure to cell phone radiation in a 2018 study which replicated a 2015 study (Foerster 2018). A Yale Medicine study found prenatally exposed mice had altered brains, poor memory and were hyperactive (Aldad2011). University of California School of Public Health research found children exposed to cell phones before and after birth were more likely to have behavior problems than unexposed children (Divan 2008, Divan 2012). High prenatal cell phone use linked to hyperactivity/inattention problems in child- 83,884 mother-child pairs (Birks 2017)DEPRESSION AND SUICIDE RATES ARE RISING SHARPLY IN YOUNG AMERICANS, NEW REPORT SAYS. THIS MAY BE ONE REASON WHY
https://time.com/5550803/depression-suicide-rates-youth/ Since the late 2000s, the mental health of teens and young adults in the U.S. has declined dramatically. That’s the broad conclusion of a new study published in the Journal of Abnormal Psychology. Between 2009 and 2017, rates of depression among kids ages 14 to 17 increased by more than 60%, the study found. The increases were nearly as steep among those ages 12 to 13 (47%) and 18 to 21 (46%), and rates roughly doubled among those ages 20 to 21. In 2017—the latest year for which federal data are available—more than one in eight Americans ages 12 to 25 experienced a major depressive episode, the study found. These findings were based on data collected from more than 600,000 people by the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, an annual nationwide mental-health survey conducted by a branch of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. “I think this is quite a wake-up call,” says Mary Helen Immordino-Yang, a professor of psychology and education at the University of Southern California (who was not affiliated with the new study). “These findings are coming together with other kinds of evidence that show we’re not supporting our adolescents in developmentally appropriate ways.” One of the study’s authors agrees. “There is an overwhelming amount of data from many different sources, and it all points in the same direction: more mental health issues among American young people,” says Jean Twenge, a professor of psychology at San Diego State University and author of iGen, a book about how technology affects the lives of young people. What’s causing today’s young people so much anguish? “This is always a tough question to answer, as we can’t prove for sure what the causes are,” Twenge says. “But there was one change that impacted the lives of young people more than older people, and that was the growth of smartphones and digital media like social media, texting and gaming.” While older adults also use these technologies, “their adoption among younger people was faster and more complete, and the impact on their social lives much larger,” Twenge says.MOBILE PHONE RADIATION MAY AFFECT MEMORY PERFORMANCE IN ADOLESCENTS
SWISS TROPICAL AND PUBLIC HEALTH INSTITUTE
The study to be published on 19 July 2018 found that cumulative RF-EMF brain exposure from mobile phone use over one year may have a negative effect on the development of figural memory performance in adolescents, confirming prior results published in 2015. Figural memory is mainly located in the right brain hemisphere and association with RF-EMF was more pronounced in adolescents using the mobile phone on the right side of the head. “This may suggest that indeed RF-EMF absorbed by the brain is responsible for the observed associations.” said Martin Röösli, Head of Environmental Exposures and Health at Swiss TPH. AUTISM AND EMF? PLAUSIBILITY OF A PATHOPHYSIOLOGICAL LINK
Martha R Herbert, PhD, MD, Harvard Medical School, Mass General Hospital, Neurology www.AutismRevolution.org
- EMF is likely to make autism’s cellular, metabolic and nervous system physiological dysfunctions worse
- EMF is a contributor to causing and worsening autism
- Reducing EMF exposures should reduce severity and incidence of autism

THE BABYSAFE PROJECT – OVER 270 DOCTORS/EDUCATORS
As a research scientist and physician who studies how microwave radiation affects the outcomes of pregnancy, I am deeply concerned about growing exposures to cell phone and other wireless radiation.” Dr. Hugh Taylor, Chief of Obstetrics at Yale 10 Tips to Reduce Exposure including:- Avoid carrying your cell phone on your body
- Avoid holding any wireless device against your body when in use.
- Whenever possible, connect to the internet with wired cables.
- When using Wi-Fi, connect only to download, then disconnect.
- Avoid prolonged or direct exposure to Wi-Fi routers.
AMERICAN ACADEMY OF PEDIATRICS SAFETY TIPS FOR FAMILIES
- Use cell phones in speaker mode or with the use of hands-free kits.
- Avoid carrying your phone against the body like in a pocket, sock, or bra. Cell phone manufacturers can’t guarantee that the amount of radiation you’re absorbing will be at a safe level.
- If you plan to watch a movie on your device, download it first, then switch to airplane mode while you watch in order to avoid unnecessary radiation exposure.
- Keep an eye on your signal strength (i.e. how many bars you have). The weaker your cell signal, the harder your phone has to work and the more radiation it gives off.
- Avoid making calls in cars, elevators, trains, and buses. The cell phone works harder to get a signal through metal, so the power level increases.
- Remember that cell phones are not toys or teething items.
- Make only short or essential calls on cell phones.
MINIMIZE HEALTH RISKS FROM ELECTRONIC DEVICES New Jersey Education Association Review 11/2016
- Keep devices away from the body and bedroom.
- Put devices on desks, not laps.
- Hard wire all devices that connect to the internet.
- Hard wire all fixed devices such as printers, projectors and boards.
- Use hard-wired phones instead of cell or cordless phones.
Choose corded connections.
Connect to Internet whenever possible using ethernet connections, not Wi-Fi. It is as simple as running a cord from your router directly to your device and then turning off the wireless antennas of the router and the devices.
- Corded connections provide access to the same Internet but without the body-penetrating wireless radiation.
- Adapters are available to connect ethernet cords to smaller devices such as tablets, e-readers, and smartphones.
